How can I help my very oily skin?

I used to have very dry skin when I was younger. Now I am almost 30 and my skin just keeps getting oiler and oiler. I do not have acne or blackheads but I do have large pores. I use a pack of blotting papers in a week and I'm still OILY! I hear that witch hazel is a good product to try but where do I find it, what does it look like and what is the recommended usage of it?

I have already read tons of postings from other people about oily skin but they all seemed to be teenagers. I am constantly embarassed by my skin and really need some advice. I am seriously thinking about seeing a dermatologist but I have to wonder if insurance would pay for the medication they subscribe.

Any thoughts are welcomed.

Thanks!

How can I help my very oily skin?
Witch hazel comes in a bottle something like rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. It's not even expensive. It's also not terribly effective, but since it's cheap, give it a try if you want.

I had oily skin as an adult, too. What helped was

--wash GENTLY (no scrubbing, even if I'm breaking out) two times a day with a very mild soap

--blot mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and mid-evening, no more

--use a non-comedogenic (is that the word?) liquid foundation, if you use foundation, which specifies a matte finish

--use a powder intended for oily skin, with a matte finish, designed to counter shine (I like Cornsilk and come back to it after every experimental purchase.)

--and the biggie, even though it seems counterintuitive, is MOISTURIZE.

What? Yeah, I know. But for me, the oily skin was my body's normal reaction to me stripping away the oils by washing, blotting, wiping down, and such, many times a day. My body replaced those oils, and then some.

Once I started using a very light moisturizer (for me, Neutrogena “Moisture” oil-free for sensitive skin or L'Oreal Dermo-Expertise “Futur*e Moisturizer” + a Daily Dose of Pure Vitamin e, Normal to Dry Skin are favorites, and anything containing sunscreen was a failure), my oily skin got a whole lot less oily.

I hope it does the same for you.
Reply:Your insurance should cover at least some one the medications due to them being given via prescription.

Witch hazel can be bought in stores such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and CVS. It is usually with the facial removal products. I would try using a power on your face and not an oil based make-up. You might have to pay more for it, but if it helps you feel better about your face then it's worth it.
Reply:I had the same problem and I'm 30, I currently use Cliniques facial cleansing system for oily skin (but most skin care lines for oily skin will work). Just make sure all your face products are oil-free, and yes witch hazel is good, but it's useless if you're using make-up that has oil in it.

Good Luck

And I also use this every night before I go to bed. I know that this is a Mary Kay product, but it really helps with acne and it is a great cleanser.

I use this after every shower that I take. All it is is just a lotion that you rub over the acne or anything like that and it will help it go away a whole lot faster. The only down side is that it is a prescription that your doctor will need to prescribe you, too. But don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with it and it works super well. It is extremely cheap and easy to get at any pharmacy.

And the main thing that I do that helps my acne go away really fast is if I go swimming in a pool that has Chlorine in it. Chlorine is a cleanser and it actually helps clean your skin and it makes my acne go away a whole lot faster than the leading brands. So I would recommend this way more than the others above just because it is a fun and enjoyable way to get rid of the acne.

I hope that you can find your answer within some of these websites. These are all great products and they really help and work for the acne problem. Good luck!
